Brown Leadership Transition

A golf management company with corporate offices in Cumberland County and South Carolina has undergone leadership changes this summer.

John A. Brown, president and CEO of Brown Golf Management, has decided to retire from the business and sell his majority interest to his partners.

His three partners are sons John M. Brown and Todd Brown, the company’s COO and executive vice president, and CFO Jason Harshbarger.

Brown Golf, which was founded in 2011, has been expanding the number of golf courses it either owns or manages. The company’s portfolio now includes 21 golf facilities with 29 courses in six states, including Pennsylvania.

Brown Golf recently purchased Palmetto Hall Plantation, a 36-hole golf complex in Hilton Head Island, S.C.

The company also recently began managing Holiday Inn Vacation Club courses in Missouri, Georgia and Florida, while entering into a long-term lease with Gainesville Country Club in Florida. The latter recently reconstructed its clubhouse restaurant.

Brown spoke with the Business Journal this spring about the consolidation of the golf industry and his company’s national growth prospects.

As part of the leadership transition, the company moved its Northeast office from Shiremanstown to nearby Hampden Township. Brown Golf has been listed as a top 25 management company in Golf Inc. the last three years.
