Golf's Sales LeadersDespite an improving economy, golf course sales remains a tough business. Golf Inc. surveyed peopled involved in course acquisitions to identify the individuals who weild the most influence. CEO, John M Brown was listed as one of the buyers, brokers, finaciers and attorneys who influence the industry the most.
Brown Golf Adds Two More ClubsBrown Golf, with its corporate office located in Camp Hill, PA, continues to grow its portfolio of clubs with the addition of two more 18-hole facilities. In January 2018, Brown added a signature Jack Nicklaus designed course, Great Bear Golf Club in East Stroudsburg, PA. In May 2018, Brown added another facility, Green Mountain National, located in Killington, Vermont.

Long after most U.S. industries have begun to enjoy a recovery from the Great Recession, the real estate side of the American golf business remains trapped in a quandary.
The pace of golf course sales illustrates the problem. Last year, according to Marcus & Millichap's Leisure Investment Properties Group, 123 properties valued between $1 million and $10 million changed hands. The number is close to the norm. During the past decade — that is, since 2007, the onset of the Great Recession — an average of 130 U.S. golf properties in this price range have sold annually.

Slowly but surely, Brown Golf Management is shedding its identity as a regional golf operator. Since it was founded in 2011, Brown Golf has operated almost exclusively in Florida, Pennslyvania, and the Carolinas. This year the company was hired to manage the golf venues owned by Holiday Inn's time-share division. The pact added three properties to its portfolio. Two of them — Apple Mountain Resort and Golf in Clarkesville, GA & Holiday Hills Resort & Golf in Branson, MO — are states where Brown didn't previously have a presence.
